Dorzolamide and Timolol
Dorzolamide inhibits the enzyme carbonic anhydrase in the eye’s ciliary processes, reducing the formation of bicarbonate ions, sodium, and fluid transport. This slows down the production of aqueous humor, leading to decreased fluid buildup in the eye. Timolol works by blocking beta receptors in the ciliary processes, further reducing aqueous humor production. Together, these actions lower intraocular pressure (IOP), helping to protect the optic nerve and reduce the risk of vision loss caused by elevated eye pressure.
